I just wanted to apologize, over the weekend I was extremely busy and sold almost all of my soap. I am currently making new, fresh batches that will be ready to ship within a few days. I appreciate your business and I look forward to sending you your orders!

Each of my soap bars and cleansers are handcrafted / hand blended and hand poured or molded. Although appliances such as mixers or blenders may be used, the product manufacturing process is very similar to cooking and baking at home. I try to stay natural and use many organic or natural ingredients for color and texture. Many of these handmade soap products are created using basic food ingredients such as vegetable oils, plant butters such as cocoa butter, cocoa, nuts, seeds, herbs and spices. Cornsilk will give soap a silky lather, Coconut Milk or Aloe provide a creamy, silky lather. Indigo Root gives a soft, natural blue, while Madder Root gives us colors ranging from pink to raspberry red, though most often I will use earths pigments for color. Some ingredients are used for exfoliation or texture, such as Pumice, Green Tea, Mint Leaves, ground Apricot kernels, etc., and of course, Oatmeal, which is great for gentle exfoliation and always feels nice while soothing dry, itchy skin.
As with any handmade goodness, no two products or batches will ever be exactly the same. The color or scent may vary slightly, or an item may be slightly mis-shapen; this is one of the hallmarks of my product lines!
Whichever type you decide on, I feel that you will enjoy handmade soaps as much as I and my family do.

Handcrafted Soap vs. Commercial Soap
One of the biggest reasons to buy handcrafted soap is that small soapmakers leave the glycerine content of their soap in their soap. Most commercial and larger soap manufacturers extract the glycerine to sell separately, sometimes at a higher price than the soap itself! Glycerine is important to skin care because it is a humectant. Humectants draw moisture from the air, which, in turn, moisturize your skin. The glycerine content of the soap is what makes handcrafted soap softer than commercially made soap.
Another reason to buy handcrafted soap is that most of them are made in small batches, so you can be assured of the quality and the attention given to each bar of soap. Many handcrafted soapmakers have small family run businesses that you can feel good about supporting.
Some handcrafted soaps are scented with fragrance oils. These are synthetic chemicals that are mixed together to imitate a particular scent. Essential oils are the fragrance emitting components of plants and are at the heart of aromatherapy. They have many beneficial effects on the body, mind and spirit. Makers of all natural, handcrafted soaps use essential oils to scent their bars.
You may also see handcrafted soaps that contain dyes, colorants or other additives that are synthetic. At Bella Mia, we do not use artificial dyes or colorants. We only use safe pigments and natural colorants (herbal, etc.) All natural soaps contain herbs and other natural botanical ingredients to add color, skin benefits and exfoliation.
It is extremely important to read the ingredient labels if using all natural handcrafted products is important to you. Most handcrafted soapmakers list all of their ingredients on their labels even though it is not required. They want you to know they are only using natural ingredients. They want you to be aware of what you are putting on your body and if you do not see a label, don't hesitate to ask the maker. |
